LIVERPOOL END DISCUSSIONS REGARDING ROBERTSON’S POTENTIAL MOVE TO TOTTENHAM

Liverpool Football Club has terminated negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur concerning a transfer for defender Andy Robertson. The discussions, initiated by Spurs last week, have been halted after Liverpool assessed their squad requirements.

The club acknowledged Tottenham’s interest, respecting Robertson’s long service since his arrival in 2017 and his contractual situation, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season. Despite this, a decision was made not to proceed with the transfer talks. The experienced left-back, who also captains the Scottish national team, had not submitted a transfer request.

A key factor in the decision is the lack of depth in the left-back position. Robertson and Milos Kerkez are currently the only senior options available, making a mid-season departure impractical. Robertson’s playing time has been reduced this Premier League campaign, starting in just four of 23 matches, with Kerkez often preferred. However, he has featured more prominently in the Champions League.

The defensive line is already under strain due to injuries. Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni are ruled out for the remainder of the season, while Joe Gomez sustained a knock in the recent match against Bournemouth. Ibrahima Konaté is also currently absent for personal reasons.

Manager Arne Slot has publicly expressed his desire to retain the squad’s core, especially with the team still competing in both the Champions League and the FA Cup. Senior players within the dressing room have also voiced their support for keeping Robertson at the club.
