CBS NEWS TO HOST TOWN HALL FEATURING WIDOW OF CONSERVATIVE ACTIVIST

CBS News has scheduled a special town hall event for December, featuring Erika Kirk, the widow of the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The program, set to air on December 13th, will be moderated by the network’s Editor-in-Chief, Bari Weiss.

Internal planning documents indicate the event will center on themes of “grief, faith, politics, and more.” The live recording is planned for December 10th in New York City.

This town hall represents a significant programming move under Weiss’s editorial leadership, which began in October. Her appointment was part of an initiative to introduce a wider range of political viewpoints to the network’s coverage. The event aligns with her stated goal of serving viewers she describes as the “75%” in the political center, who seek factual reporting over partisan narratives.

In a recent public address, Weiss emphasized this mission, stating the network aims to provide information that allows people to make informed decisions about their lives and communities, calling a return to this principle “normalcy.”

Since her husband’s death in September, Erika Kirk has become a visible figure in conservative circles. In recent public remarks, she has advocated for national healing through dialogue, stressing the importance of communication over division.

Prospective attendees for the town hall are being asked a series of screening questions online. These include whether they identify as conservative, if they are grieving a personal loss, and questions regarding their religious affiliations and admired figures.

A spokesperson for CBS News declined to comment on the as-yet-unannounced event.
