Fitness equipment company Peloton has announced a significant recall of its Original Bike+ exercise bikes in the United States, affecting approximately 833,000 units. The action was prompted by safety concerns that the seat post assembly may break during use, creating a fall hazard.
According to the official recall notice, the company has received multiple reports of the seat post breaking and detaching while the bike is in operation. These incidents have resulted in at least two injuries from subsequent falls.
Consumers who own the affected model are being instructed to discontinue use immediately. Peloton is offering a free replacement seat post, which customers can install themselves, and is providing contact information for the repair process.
This is not the first time Peloton has faced a seat post-related safety issue. The company conducted a separate, voluntary recall of over two million bikes in 2023 for a similar problem.
The announcement comes during a period of broader challenges for the company. Its stock price declined following the recall news, adding to a difficult year for its market performance. Peloton has been engaged in a corporate restructuring effort, which has included workforce reductions and price increases for its products. The company has cited economic pressures, including the impact of recent trade tariffs, as factors affecting its financial outlook and operational costs.
