VETERAN STRIKER BAMFORD JOINS SHEFFIELD UNITED, PUTTING PAST RIVALRY WITH MANAGER BEHIND THEM

by Denis Campbell

Sheffield United have completed the signing of experienced forward Patrick Bamford on a short-term deal. The move comes despite a well-publicised incident last season where Bamford, then at Leeds United, led chants directed at the Blades’ manager, Chris Wilder.

Bamford, 32, was a free agent after his departure from Leeds by mutual agreement in August. He has now committed to the Championship side until January, as the club seeks to address its struggles in front of goal.

The striker’s final months at Elland Road were marked by promotion celebrations that included taunts aimed at Wilder. The footage circulated widely, prompting Bamford and then-Leeds manager Daniel Farke to personally apologise to Wilder in the aftermath.

The two men have a competitive history dating back several seasons, with Wilder having previously criticised Bamford during a previous promotion battle. However, any lingering tension appears to have been set aside, with Wilder having publicly accepted the apology at the time, stating it was part of the game’s competitive nature.

Sheffield United, currently languishing near the bottom of the second tier, are in urgent need of attacking reinforcement. For Bamford, the move represents a chance to reignite his career after a period hampered by injuries, which limited his involvement last season.

The agreement signals a pragmatic move by both parties, focusing on the immediate footballing challenge ahead rather than past exchanges.
