BRENTFORD’S LATE SURGE SINKS STRUGGLING NEWCASTLE

A second-half comeback from Brentford condemned Newcastle United to another dispiriting away defeat, deepening the concerns around their faltering Premier League campaign.

The visitors had taken a first-half lead against the run of play through Harvey Barnes, but the advantage was short-lived. Brentford, demonstrating characteristic resilience, leveled through Kevin Schade before a decisive late intervention from striker Igor Thiago. The Brazilian converted a penalty and added a second in stoppage time to seal a 3-1 victory.

Newcastle’s task was compounded by the dismissal of defender Dan Burn, who received a second yellow card for the foul that conceded the penalty. The defeat extends a worrying trend for Eddie Howe’s side, who have now failed to win in nine consecutive Premier League away matches.

Post-match, the Newcastle manager acknowledged the team’s current struggles. “We know it’s not good enough,” Howe stated. “We were lacking in confidence today. There were a lot of technical mistakes. We need to stay grouped together in this difficult period.”

In contrast, the result marks another significant home win for Brentford, who controlled large portions of the contest. Their equalizer came from a familiar source, a long throw-in finished by Schade, underscoring a potent set-piece threat.

For Newcastle, sitting just two points above the relegation zone, the international break offers a chance to regroup. The performance in West London, however, raised further questions about their ability to translate strong home form into results on their travels.
