The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has officially determined the cause of death for filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Singer Reiner. According to the released reports, both died from multiple sharp force injuries, with the manner of death classified as homicide.
The couple was found deceased at their Brentwood residence last Sunday. Their daughter discovered the scene after becoming concerned. Authorities later arrested the Reiners’ son, Nick Reiner, on the same day. He now faces two counts of first-degree murder, with allegations that a knife was used as a dangerous weapon in the commission of the crimes.
During a court appearance this week, Nick Reiner did not enter a plea. Observers noted he was largely concealed from view and appeared to be restrained. He is scheduled for an arraignment hearing early next month.
In the wake of the tragedy, family members have issued a statement expressing profound grief, describing the loss as “unimaginable” and noting their parents were also their closest friends. Meanwhile, tributes from colleagues in the entertainment industry continue to pour in, honoring Rob Reiner’s legacy.
The release of Reiner’s recently completed final project, a concert film, has been postponed indefinitely.
