A major London cricket franchise is making a significant strategic shift, dramatically increasing its investment in coaching and support staff ahead of the upcoming domestic season. The move follows a substantial capital injection from new investors.
The team, which has historically underperformed in the men’s competition despite success in the women’s tournament, is now channeling resources into building a high-calibre off-field team. This comes after the franchise secured a major investment last year, facilitating a budget for support staff reported to be three times larger than in previous seasons.
A senior cricket official at the franchise confirmed the new direction. “We are now resourcing our support staff at a level that far surpasses anything we’ve done before,” he stated. “The priority is to bring in high-quality personnel. We have excellent coaches and are building strong support teams to create systems where success becomes the expected outcome.”
The recruitment drive has seen the franchise attract several experienced figures from a successful Indian Premier League campaign, including a new head coach, a team analyst, and a physiotherapist. The backroom team for the women’s side has also been strengthened with notable appointments.
On the playing front, the franchise has secured a mix of international and domestic talent for the coming season, including prominent South African, Australian, and English cricketers.
The franchise also recently revealed a refreshed visual identity, featuring a streamlined logo and a colour scheme that nods to its historic home ground. This rebranding means both of the capital’s teams in the competition will now feature ‘London’ in their names and wear shades of blue, a coincidence the cricket director downplayed by referencing similar scenarios in other major leagues.
