HISTORIC EU-INDIA TRADE PACT FINALIZED AMID GLOBAL ECONOMIC SHIFTS

by Steven Morris

European and Indian officials have concluded a landmark free trade agreement, described by negotiators as one of the most significant economic partnerships of its kind. The comprehensive deal, which eliminates the vast majority of tariffs between the two economies, is slated for formal ratification later this year.

The agreement marks a major opening of India’s large and historically protected market to European goods and services, particularly in manufacturing. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi characterized the pact as a milestone, highlighting its scale in terms of global trade volume.

Sources close to the negotiations indicate that the final stages of talks gained considerable momentum in recent months. This acceleration is widely attributed to shared economic concerns, including potential market disruptions from overseas and a mutual interest in diversifying supply chains and reducing strategic dependencies.
