West Ham United has confirmed the appointment of Rita Guarino as the new head coach of its women’s side. The Italian manager has agreed to a contract running until 2027.

Guarino takes over a team currently positioned near the bottom of the Women’s Super League table. Her first match in charge will be a challenging away fixture against Chelsea in January, following the league’s winter break.

The new manager brings a significant pedigree from her time in Italy, where she led Juventus to four consecutive league championships. This marks her first coaching role in English football.

In a statement, Guarino expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity, highlighting the club’s tradition and the existing potential within the squad. She emphasized her intention to foster a cohesive and hard-working unit, focused on an organized and proactive style of play.

The club’s assistant manager is set to remain in his position, working alongside the new head coach. The team has managed just a single victory in the league so far this season.
