Tottenham Hotspur’s Women’s Super League campaign has been dealt a significant blow with the news that winger Jessica Naz will be unavailable for the remainder of the season. The 25-year-old sustained a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee during the club’s recent league fixture.

Naz was forced from the pitch in Spurs’ victory over Aston Villa this past weekend. The club has since confirmed the severity of the diagnosis, stating the player is scheduled for surgical intervention.

This setback marks the second major ACL injury of Naz’s career, having previously recovered from a similar issue in her opposite knee several years ago. After a lengthy rehabilitation at that time, she successfully returned to become a pivotal figure for her club. This season, she had been an ever-present in the lineup, contributing to Tottenham’s strong position in the league table.

Her injury adds to a concerning trend within the women’s game this season, with several high-profile players from various WSL clubs, including international teammates, having suffered identical ligament damage in recent months. Discussions around the comparative incidence of such injuries in women’s football compared to the men’s game continue, with recent data from another major European league highlighting a notable disparity.

The club has issued a statement expressing full support for Naz as she begins her recovery process.
