The incident occurred as Spurs fell 2-1 to Fulham in a Premier League clash marked by a disastrous start for the hosts. Fulham established a two-goal lead within the opening six minutes, with the second goal stemming directly from a misjudged clearance by Vicario well outside his penalty area, allowing Harry Wilson to score into an unguarded net.
While the team’s overall performance drew widespread disapproval from the stands, Frank took particular issue with the audible booing directed specifically at the Italian goalkeeper during the match. “I didn’t like that our fans booed at him straight after the mistake and a few times after that,” Frank stated post-match. He emphasized that such criticism during play was, in his view, “unacceptable,” arguing that true support means backing players in difficult moments on the pitch.
Vicario, for his part, accepted full responsibility for the error that led to Fulham’s decisive second goal. “The intent was to clear the ball long but I hit the ball in a bad way. I take the responsibility for that,” the goalkeeper admitted. He adopted a philosophical stance regarding the fan reaction, acknowledging it as “part of football” and stressing the need for the team to remain focused internally.
The loss extends Tottenham’s concerning run of form, leaving them without a league victory at their home ground since the opening day of the season. Frank conceded his team created “a mountain to climb” with their early collapse and acknowledged the growing pressure surrounding the club’s campaign.
Meanwhile, Fulham manager Marco Silva celebrated a milestone 200th game in charge with his team’s first away win of the season, praising his players’ control during the critical early phase of the match.
