ENGLAND’S ASHES CAMPAIGN FACES EARLY SETBACK AS WOOD UNDERGOES HAMSTRING SCAN

by Denis Campbell

England’s preparations for the upcoming Ashes series have encountered a significant hurdle after fast bowler Mark Wood was forced to leave the field during the team’s only warm-up match.

Wood, a pivotal figure in England’s pace attack, reported discomfort in his hamstring after completing his bowling spell on the opening day of the fixture. He has since been sent for a precautionary medical scan to determine the severity of the issue.

The 33-year-old bowler had been carefully managed following knee surgery earlier this year, with his return deliberately timed for the Ashes tour. His absence from the warm-up, and potential unavailability for the first Test, represents a major concern for the visiting side.

In a further complication for England’s bowling resources, fellow quick Brydon Carse was also unavailable for the start of the match due to a stomach illness.

All attention is now on the results of Wood’s scan. The England camp will be hoping for positive news, allowing their key speedster to resume bowling as soon as possible ahead of the highly anticipated series opener.
